The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans. Operating in North and South America, Europe and Japan, the Foundation focuses on five key ideas: protecting water resources and preventing pollution; addressing today’s and future threats to the ocean; protecting beaches and shorelines; keeping beaches free and accessible to all; contributing to the reduction of plastic pollution.

An international network of volunteers works around the world to respond to local threats and collaborates with regional staff and experts. Through various campaigns and educational initiatives, the Foundation aims to tackle the issues that face our oceans starting from local communities.

Thanks to the growing number of volunteers, the Foundation’s has been successfully carrying out its mission since 2006. At the moment, their priority campaigns focus on beach access and habitat protection in California, a “ban the bag” campaign against plastic pollution and on putting a stop to the new offshore drilling planned by the Trump administration.
